Ah!!! I'm SO excited to have the first engagement session of 2016 up on the blog today! Jake and Cait's Richmond session was such a blast! It was so much fun getting to document their love where it blooms more every day.
NOT TO MENTION, their ADORABLE Richmond home stole my heart! (and their love story, you aren't going to want to skip the writing on today's blog! It's a tear jerker.)
Cait and Jake are one of those "dream teams" that I can't help but want to be around! I loved getting to see the joy that thrives in their relationship. After having out with these two for only TWO hours I couldn't imagine a more complimenting pair! These two made my job so fun and I'm so excited to be there on their wedding day!!
A little bit about the photo locations:
Cait and Jake are all Richmond and After we had a little bit of fun on the porch of their adorable home, we headed to Libby Hill Park where the Richmond skyline SANG! Finally, we headed to a GARAGE (yes, these were taken in front of a random garage) overflowing with stunning purple florals!
THE LOVE STORY:
"Sometimes it’s the moments you expect the least that turn out the best. In September of 2011, Cait was in the middle of her senior year at the University of Richmond. Jake was just starting his first full-time job out of college, photojournalist for CBS 6. Even though they had never crossed paths before, there was a certain kind of magic willing to bring the two together on Parkwood Avenue in Downtown Richmond:
A pair of mutual friends invited each them to a Labor Day “Beer Olympics” event. Cait almost didn't go because it was a Sunday and she needed to study. Little did Team Ireland and Team Canada know that Cait and Jake’s skills on the field of beer battle would be cast aside in exchange for giggles; the origins of what would turn out to be a budding relationship.
A few days later, they classed it up and went on their first date at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art & Thai Diner II in Carytown. After a few months of dates around RVA and some subtle coaxing by Jake, the pair began a relationship
that now culminates in a life together.
Ask either of them, they’ll tell you they didn’t show up to Parkwood Avenue looking for much more than a good time with friends. Cait was focused on how best to enjoy her senior year at UR; Jake was trying to figure out if RVA would be his home.
How serendipitous it seems that the answer to both of their searches would be one another.
Cait and Jake were engaged to be married in the breathtaking land of Bermuda.
One of Cait’s best friends was living there in June 2015, so the couple took a trip to visit her. Little did Cait know that Jake had smuggled her great-grandmother’s ring across international boarders and past curious TSA agents.
Cait had absolutely no idea what was about to happen.
Her first and last clue: the antique ring box Jake pulled from his pocket. They were engaged to be married at sunset, in the shadow of the “100 Stairs”, near Elbow Beach. Cait said “yes” but asked, “is this real?” too.
The best part of a good love story is that when you reach an end, on a page or on a screen, you get to guess what wonderful things lie ahead for the happy couple. Hardships, sure; joy and happiness, oh you bet.
Still, something about learning of the couple’s journey makes you secure in knowing whatever their next step is together it leads to something wonderful.
What makes Jake most excited about spending his life with Cait is that he knows her laugh won’t stop. It’s the sound that makes him happiest in this world. Jake is inspired by the open heart Cait has for other people; the way she genuinely connects with their problems and helps them feel stronger afterward.
Cait loves that Jake is driven, down to earth, humble (most of the time), caring, and pretty darn cute! She says it is so easy to spend time together, no matter what they are doing. She’s proud of him for his outlook on life and how he always seems to know what matters. While he is incredibly hard working and talented, he also knows how to kick back and enjoy a good time.
There is no one she’d rather call her partner.
Her best friend.
The love of her life.
Their relationship is founded on the principle that life is best lived when you engage with the world around you. A few years ago, Cait asked Jake what he thought about finding each other so early in life.
She said, “What do you think about the fact that we’re so young!?” He waited a few moments and then said,
"we can be young together."
Two people, holding hands, discovering what they can about a thing that is too complex and fascinating to figure out on their own. A relationship that invites the community in and holds friends dear; that makes sure family comes before all else; and that no sun sets without a simple question being asked: “how was your day?” There is one thing we should all expect out of this crazy thing called life:
when you find the person that you love the most there is no moment more special than the one you spend with them.
Cait and Jake,
