I am so glad that you want away for about an hour so we could capture Lauren and Johns engagement session in Bowling green, Virginia! These two are so sweet together, I'm so excited to be a part of their love story! This session did NOT want to happen because it must have been rained out 2 or 3 times, but we decided to meet early and shoot!
During my last roll of film on these two it started POURING rain (good thing we met early!!) , and they let me keep going until I couldn't anymore! to say the least these film scans are going to be SO COOL. I mean, literally POURING rain. I can't WAIT to get the film scans back!! In the mean time here are some of the teasers from their session before the rain hit!!
Also, they have a super adorable love story mixed in :)!!
The love story:
John and I got together because my best friend, Lauren Didlake, couldn’t go with him to the homecoming dance so she conveniently pawned him off on me.
I wasn’t even planning on going to the dance
and had to borrow a dress from someone because it was so last minute! My best friend ended up coming to the dance an hour late, and John walked around with the two of us on his arm all night!
Shortly after, we decided to give this dating thing a whirl
(he was a senior and I was a sophomore, so neither of us really thought it would last more than two weeks).
Next thing we knew two weeks turned into two years
and we were both trying to decide where we wanted to go to college. Long story short, we both ended up at Lynchburg College. Even though it wasn’t what I had planned,
I am so thankful that this is how things turned out
because John really helped me get through being away from home. He would wake up hours before his first class just to walk me to my 8 a.m. classes and meet me for lunch every day.
Seeing how much he cared for me and always put me before himself made me realize that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.
He is always so selfless and considerate, even when I don’t always return the favor.
Before I get into how he proposed, I want to say that John put a lot of thought into when he was going to pop the question.
He planned it all on a very special day to me – my nanny’s birthday. My nanny passed away when I was younger and she has somehow made her way into every major event in my life.
Now for the part everyone is just dying to hear –
John proposed after taking me on a hike at Crabtree Falls, which is between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. John made me work for that ring though – I was sweaty and gross from hiking in the middle of the summer when he finally proposed! When I realized that he was proposing I threw my hands up over my face and said, "Are you really doing this!?" John said, "You bet!"
Then he got on his knee and asked me to marry him.
We can’t wait to start this next part of our lives and continue to grow in our love for each other.
We recently bought a house and have been slowly renovating it before anyone moves in. The renovation has been the most frustrating, yet rewarding part of our entire relationship.
During the frustrating times, John would pull me in for a hug and remind me that it will all come together in the end. Now that we are almost done with the renovations,
I see that he was right.
We can’t wait to start decorating it and make the house our home. Also, we can’t wait for our 3 cats to move into their new home! John is dying to be able to see them every day (he’s such a good “cat daddy”)!
"This story wouldn’t even be without Lauren Didlake. I thank her all the time for giving me my greatest gift" – John!
Lauren and John,
If what they say about good rain being luck is true, you guys already have good luck at your engagement session!! I can't wait to be a part of your special day!!
