My name is Courtney Lucas and I am the owner & stylist behind Hello Darling Beauty. I was so excited when Natalie asked me to share some helpful beauty tips for future Brides! Every Bride wants to be the best version of themselves on their wedding day, so I am going to provide some helpful tips on how to best prepare your skin and hair for the big day.
As a makeup artist, I find that nothing makes my job more challenging than dry skin. I cannot stress enough how important it is to moisturize along with the proper SPF daily. While there are tricks of the trade to help make up for this occurrence, it is always better to have the best foundation possible for the application. If you have the chance to treat yourself a little, I would suggest getting a facial at least a month prior to the wedding. This will clean out your pores, give you a nice exfoliation of any dead skin, and allow you to get a professional opinion of how your skin is looking and what you can do to make it its best.
The second tip I recommend for making the most of your makeup application, is to make sure that your eyebrows are in the best shape possible. Over plucking or waxing can really limit your makeup artist from giving you some killer eyebrows for your wedding day. I LOVE shaping brows and filling them in with makeup, but it always turns out so much better when the proper shape and fullness is already somewhat there. The less of the brow there is, the more I have to fake with makeup and can end up looking more artificial than we want. I know growing your brows out is a struggle, but you will thank yourself the day of your wedding and for many years to come when you look at those pictures! After they are nice and full, see a professional at a spa or hair salon to get them whipped back into shape.
So what are some things you can do to make sure your hair looks fabulous on your wedding day? This brings us back to my most hated word, DRY. Hairspray dries out hair on its own. When I am curling your hair on your wedding day and it is already dry to begin with, it begins to be a struggle. Professional products are always most helpful of course, but aren’t always in the budget. If you can, at least spring for the professional shampoo. This will help the hair from getting too dry. I would also recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment once a week for even better results (with a real product, not a recipe from Pinterest ;).)
Now for my last tip and most popular question I receive. How should your hair be on the day of the wedding when you come to get it styled?! I think every stylist has their own personal preference. In my case, I do not see my clients on a monthly basis for a haircut, color, etc. I am in the dark on the condition of their hair naturally. Some brides I will see prior to the wedding for their trial, but most often I am meeting them for the first time on the very day of their wedding. The most common belief is that you should come with your hair “dirty” because it will curl better that way. I disagree with this
approach, because some women have more oily hair than others. This sometimes causes the hair to be very flat and hard to manage. Plus, if it is oily at the beginning of the day, imagine how it will end up looking after a long wedding day and a night of dancing! This is why I suggest coming with your hair freshly washed and blow dried with a little bit of mousse. The mousse will allow more assistance when curling the hair and the shampoo will give the hair fullness and allow the look to maintain fresh throughout the entire night.
I hope these little tips were helpful for the preparation for your wedding day! If you have any further questions or want more beauty tips, please feel free to leave a comment on my blog and I will answer to the best of my ability!
